"I would have to travel the world to meet the people I come home to every day at I. House"

Living at I. House

International House is much more than graduate student housing in New York City. It is a dynamic and uniquely diverse residence and program center for graduate students, visiting scholars, interns and trainees.  The community comprises 700 resident members from approximately 100 countries, including the United States, who attend any graduate program or participate in an internship program anywhere in the New York City area.  Situated on Riverside Drive and 122nd Street in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, I. House provides its residents a living environment unlike any other in New York City and an experience to add tangible value to any academic or professional training program.

“I can confidently say that being able to live in I. House
is one of the richest and fullest educational experiences
for any young leader and this experience will be with me
         always.”
                                           - Jordache Ellapen, South Africa

"The years I lived in International House as a student
have remained a life-long inspiration for me.”
                                                    - Tatsuro Toyoda, Japan

The opportunities for personal and professional growth are as varied as the people who live at I. House.  They include events hosted by our chairman, Paul A. Volcker, for leaders in a variety of fields featuring former secretaries of state, informal encounters in the Dining Room and everything in between.  Residents live together in a family home, albeit a large one, with many facilities and amenities and a wide variety of room types and prices, promoting cultural interaction and leadership development while preparing for their future varied roles in an increasingly global society.

I. House’s rich programmatic environment promotes community and interaction across diverse cultures.  Working alongside staff, our programs are delivered by resident members who hold leadership roles for which they receive fellowships.

In addition, I. House provides scholarships, ranging from $500 to $5,000 each year, to assist resident members and increase diversity.
