Women's International Leadership Program

The 2009-2010 Women's International Leadership Program Participants.

The Women's International Leadership (WIL) Program at International House seeks to prepare a select group of women from diverse cultures and disciplines for the challenges they will face as future leaders. To date, over two-hundred and fifty women have participated in the program. The WIL Program is intended to help each grantee gain a clearer vision of her own abilities and learn how to effectively lead others, particularly in cross-cultural environments.

Designed as a practical training program to enhance graduate study, the WIL Program devotes special attention to such areas as public speaking, motivating groups, identifying personal leadership styles, conflict management, and cross-cultural communication. Grantees also attend WIL alumnae events to foster an international network of professional women.

Scholarship & Fellowship

Each grantee receives a $2,000 scholarship for the entire academic year. The scholarship is distributed in monthly installments, based on the individual's full participation in the program.

The WIL program aims to explore leadership through individual and team leadership development. This is realized through skills-building workshops and seminars, retreats, networking functions, alumnae activities and a mentoring component. Participants are also responsible for creating and implementing a team project that celebrates Women's History Month in the United States and International Women's Day. The unique experience provides a learning environment that encourages discussion about leadership, addresses issues of leadership and gender, leadership in diverse professional sectors and leadership across cultures.
