Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarship grants ensure that the I. House experience remains accessible to young leaders from all over the world.

Application requirements and deadlines for the grants and programs vary and are described below. With the exception of the Women's International Leadership Program, recipients are selected by the Admissions Committee of International House.


Outreach Grants
Grants ranging from $500 to $3,000 will be awarded to qualified applicants applying to join the I. House community for the first time. Awards are based on demonstrated financial need and the applicants' interest in contributing to the I. House community through participation in its programs. Priority is given to applicants from countries, fields of study or backgrounds that are under-represented in the I. House community.

The Performing Artists in Residence Program
Four musicians, actors or dancers applying to live at International House for the first time who are pursuing graduate studies in New York City will receive a scholarship of $5,000 for the academic year. Recipients will be required to make a significant programmatic contribution during both semesters of resident membership at International House.

Women's International Leadership (WIL) Program
Grants of $2,000 each will be awarded to eighteen women selected by the WIL Advisory Council to participate in the 2009-10 WIL Program. This program is a year-long series of seminars, workshops and projects designed to identify and strengthen individual leadership skills within the culturally diverse group of women. These grants are based on merit and demonstrated leadership skills or potential. The 2009-10 WIL Program is being sponsored by a generous grant from the Merrill Lynch Foundation.
Deadlines for the 2009-10 WIL Program:

April 15, 2009 for current
I. House residents
May 22, 2009 for applicants not currently living at
I. House

Resident Grants
Grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 for the 2010 spring semester will be awarded to residents who have lived at I. House for at least one semester. Awards are based on financial need and demonstrated participation in the I. House community.

Mitsui USA Scholarship
The two resident members selected as the 2009-10 Mitsui USA Scholars at International House will receive a $5,000 grant, made possible by The Mitsui USA Foundation. The Mitsui USA program has been developed to foster educational efforts that promote international understanding and closer U.S.-Japan relations. U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply. Qualified applicants should have strong communication skills and a strong interest in international affairs or business with appropriate course selection and/or participation in special projects, organizations or events related to these.
Deadline for the 2009-10 Mitsui USA Scholarship:
March 6, 2009 for current I. House residents
June 12, 2009 for applicants not currently living at I. House


Frontiers Management Consulting Grant

A grant up to $3,000 will be awarded to one person from an emerging country who will be studying business or business related field.  Awards are based on demonstrated financial need and a willingness to contribute to I. House.  This grant is made possible through the generous donation of Frontiers Management Consulting based in Frankfurt, Germany.
