Founded following the 1986 World Council of Alumni meeting in Berlin by a group of German Alumni, Freunde des International House, E.V. serves Germany's large alumni population-Germany is second only to the United States in the number of I-House alumni who call it home- and is a registered charity through which alumni residing in Germany can make tax-deductible gifts.

Alumni who make a gift of 25€ for individuals or 45€ for couples or more will be considered members of Freunde and will have the right to vote at the Annual Meeting. Download a membership form here

In 1998, the Board of Directors of Freunde, based in Frankfurt, determined that Freunde should serve all alumni in Europe and reincorporated as the Pan-European alumni chapter. To this end, Freunde meets annually, usually in September, in a different location in Europe. Past Freunde meetings have been held in Slovenia, Ireland, Switzerland and throughout Germany. Freunde hosts periodic smaller alumni events in locations in Germany.

Freunde's mission is:

(1) To promote the ideals, goals, and mission of International House and its umbrella alumni organization, the World Council of Alumni;

(2) To provide opportunities for association and networking among its members, other alumni, and International House through annual meetings throughout the continent or other means as determined from time to time;

(3) To support International House, New York by contributing to its projects and providing scholarship or financial assistance to its residents on the basis of merit; and

(4) To provide assistance in the recruitment of new resident members.
