Dear I-House Alumni and Friends,

This summer, between meetings and calls with many I-House Alumni and supporters, I have been exploring the House to discover it for myself and have felt compelled to capture some impressions on my phone. The first one has to do with music.

As some of you might know, the Soros Room is adjacent to my office, and sometimes I go in there to view the historic murals and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. One Friday afternoon, I heard a knock on the door, and there stood Ethan Fisher, a resident who heard me playing the piano and was curious to see who and what was in the Soros Room. Of course I invited him in, and on learning he was a student of piano at Manhattan School of Music, asked him to play a song.

As his music filled the room, I thought, “This is the kind of thing that would only happen at I-House.”

Here is my brief video clip of Ethan’s impromptu performance, which I hope might bring back memories of your own musical moments here.

As we re-open the House and welcome more residents to our global community, I look forward to sharing more such experiences with you in the months ahead.

Sincerely,
Sebastian
