I-House Residents Attend 2017 National Book Awards Ceremony

byKate Irwin (Canada), Resident Press Corps

Each year, International House President and CEO Calvin Sims invites a select group of Residents to join him at the National Book Awards Ceremony in New York. At the annual black tie event, winners in the categories of Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature for the prestigious prize are announced. Sims serves as Board Secretary for the National Book Foundation, which presents the awards.

The 2017 Awards were held on Wednesday, November 15, with nine Residents there to Represent the I-House community.

The ceremony was held inside the historic 55 Wall Street building built in 1836-1842, now the Cipriani Wall Street Restaurant.
Emmy Award-winning actress Cynthia Nixon hosted the ceremony, presenting awards to winners in all four categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and young people’s literature.
42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, gave a speech about family, life and the importance of literature before presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Scholastic Chairman, President and CEO Dick Robinson.
