I-House Residents Celebrate Lunar New Year in Davis Hall

by International House

The International House Spring 2022 programming season opened with a Lunar New Year Celebration on February 4, 2022. Approximately 100 Residents attended the first in-person event of the year in the spacious Davis Hall, where Residents and special guests graced the stage in an exuberant show of dance, music, comedy, and fashion.

Introduced by I-House VP of Programs Kim Misevis, Resident Fellows Jocelyn Liu, Yiwen Liu and Peng Guan produced the event and hosted the evening’s festivities.

The evening opened with a lively traditional lion dance by The Columbia University Lion Dance Club, followed by performances by current residents: “The Fog Space” sung by Boyang Li, a “New Year Celebration Dance” by dance group Plus86, standup comedy by Hiroyuki Shibuya, “The Swan” by cellist Peng Guan, a piano rendition of “Rachmaninov’s Moment Music aux Op.16 No.4” by Ruyi Xiang, “Fragrance of the Night” sung by Tiffany Zhao, and a Chinese classical dance by Jiangnan Shen. The show ended with a sumptuously colorful display of traditional outfits from different eras of China’s history, presented by the Columbia University Chinese Style Model Association.  After some closing remarks, the residents enjoyed snacks and activities from across Asia, including mahjong and paper-cutting.
