On April 4, 2018, International House welcomed Alumni from around the world for the 28th World Council of Alumni Meeting where we made great strides to re-establish and re-energize the WCA and discussed how the World Council and its members can contribute to resident recruitment, alumni engagement and fundraising.
Enjoy this 2-minute video of reflections and photos from the events.

Highlights from the two days included:
- An update from President & CEO Calvin Sims on the status of the House and the vision for the future, including efforts to better meet the needs of millennials in the 21st century
- An introduction of Emily Wakeling, the new Vice President for Development, Alumni Relations & Communications. Emily shared her top priorities, which include growing I-House revenue, leading a successful Centennial Campaign; growing engagement with Alumni by inspiring action connected with I-House’s mission; and increasing visibility and awareness about I-House through improved communication vehicles
- A presentation by Trustees Bill Rueckert and Peter O’Neill on a potential new building that will add more than 100 beds, better integrate all buildings, and offer a warmer and more welcoming entrance, among other features
- A new archiving project that will preserve and organize I-House’s patrimony, including historic documents, photographs, and other materials that have chronicled the I-House experience for close to 100 years
- An introduction to the new logo and I-House branding
- A Sunday Supper-style dinner featuring Resident performances and a special guest speaker: Steve Coll, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Dean of Columbia University’s Graduate School for Journalism
- A proposal for the WCA to have two rotating seats on the International House Board of Trustees
- A panel of 5 Residents who shared their “Life At I-House” stories.
The events were a true reflection of the I-House Spirit, powered by the kinetic energy of true camraderie between fellow Alumni and friends passionate about carrying through the mission and impact of the International House community.
